So Rick -

As a horror writer, what do you think? Is a thriller a type of horror book or is it an independent genre? What do you think are the basic 'requirements' if you will, for a horror novel?

Sandra,
This is one I have wrestled with and finally throw up my hands in surrender. My books have been classified as horror, as mystery, as thriller, as GLBT fiction. Anyone for paranormal? Romance? I just try to write what I think is a good story and try to leave the classifying to booksellers, reviewers, and editors.

IM doesn't have a supernatural element though, does it? Obviously In the Blood does.. so I think that's definitely horror in my little wee book of genre definitions (the little wee book in my head that is).

Good points, Sandra. IM really does have a supernatural element (or the promise of one) in that the killer may be dead himself... So it fits horror as well...
