Hmm. I wonder if I'm allowed to make reader requests here? I guess I will anyway :blahblah:

So I know Rick Reed has a number of gay horror stories out there for RCE, but what about on the lesbian side? Once in awhile, I like to have the poop scared out of me :runaway:

and btw - I see horror as separate from thrillers, I wonder if Rick, as the resident horror writer, agrees or disagrees? maybe I'll wander over to his thread next...

Perhaps its the difference between romance and erotica.

In romance, there are hints of sex, outright sex, and perhaps some kink. But the idea of the book is to take the reader on a journey toward the Happy Ever After.

In erotica, there is sex. Outright, kink, vanilla, and many other flavors too. The idea of the book is to take the reader on a sex trip. Who cares about HEA? Sex is what matters!

I would think that thriller has some gore, some weapons, some nail-biting suspense. But the idea is to take the reader from point A to point B while still remaining within the confines of reality. A thriller isn't geared to keep you up at night, with all the lights on.

Horror is about the gore, about raw emotion, about myths gone bad. Vampires, werewolves, and cannibalistic Little Red Riding Hood. The trip from Point A to Point B is not necessarily kept within the confines of anything. A horror not only has up you at night, lights on, but also with garlic coated silver baseball bat.

That's my opinion, so take it for what you think it is worth. 8)

Good points, Paula. Though I'm not sure horror has to have any gore in it. But I think it is directed at scaring the b-jesus out of you as a reader. I tend to think of horror having a supernatural element as well and see that as a main difference to thrillers.

You hear a knocking in the closet. A thriller makes you wonder, is a serial killer in there waiting to get me in my sleep? A horror makes you wonder, is it a ghost? A demon from hell ready to take my immortal soul?!?!

Anyway, I cast my reader-vote for seeing more horror. More lesbians and demons...or lesbian demons... :happydance:
